Cambodia Women's Enterprise project 2023-25

Our Club provided financial support for the establishment of two small businesses in rural Cambodia, with the objective of enabling women-led families to achieve financial independence and long-term self-sufficiency. This initiative was championed by our member, Dr Bryan Humphrey, in partnership with the Cambodian Women’s Crisis Centre. Dr Humphrey, a former member of the Rotary Club of Phnom Penh, had previously collaborated with the Centre and was well placed to support this project.

Our funding provided establishment grants, business training, and ongoing mentoring and counselling to two women.

The first recipient established a start-up laundry business, which has operated successfully over the past year. She is a 45-year-old mother of two daughters and a survivor of domestic violence. The business has enabled her to achieve financial independence and has provided stability for her family, including consistent school attendance for her children.

The second recipient was supported to establish a beauty salon. A mother of two, she has also built a successful enterprise through this assistance. With her business now established, she is planning to support her children in pursuing higher education and professional careers.

This project demonstrates the meaningful impact that targeted financial support, training, and ongoing guidance can have in empowering women and strengthening families within vulnerable communities.
