MND & Me Car Donation – 2013-2022

Member, Ken Howatson, reports:

As a result of many years of our working alongside the Brisbane Lions Football Club, with the Rotary Club of Carindale selling corporate football seats (from 2006), in 2013, the Rotary Club of Carindale was awarded a car by the Brisbane Lions. The result of our selection process was that MND & Me Coorparoo was offered the car. Subsequently, the car was wrapped with references to the Rotary Club of Carindale, Brisbane Lions FC and of course, MND & Me. So, for many years the car has proudly referenced our Club as a mobile billboard. Earlier this year, after approaching MND & Me to enquire about how the car was going, we were advised that not only were they still grateful for the donation all those years ago, but the car was coming to the end of its reliable life. It is the only car they have, and it gets used daily. The conversation touched on the possible opportunity for the Rotary Club of Carindale to again support MND & Me by funding a replacement vehicle.

From MND’s view, my reaching out to them was very timely!! More good luck than anything else. An initial process then commenced regarding the type of car, pricing, potential support from us, etc. As a part of this process, a guest speaker from MND & Me came to one of our breakfast meetings in June 2022 to update us on their mission, goafooterls and values as we had so many new members since the original donation. This helped inform our Club as a whole as to who MND & Me are, what they do, how they do it and to remind members (or let them know) that we have previous history with MND & Me. After due process was completed, the Club decided to approve the recommendation to support MND & Me in their quest for a replacement vehicle and to co fund the vehicle with the Rotaract Club of South Brisbane. The car decided on was another Hyundai … this time something a little larger – an i30. If you see the car out and about, it is well sign written acknowledging both Rotary/Rotaract as the donors.
